Add dndclient.exe, and set it to "high performance graphics card" (it may be on integrated graphics by default). Right click your desktop, go to NVidia Control Panel, 3D settings, and program settings.
Make sure your client is actually attempting to use your dedicated graphics card. Installing an older version of directx is all well and good, but it'll amount to nothing if ddo doesn't recognize it.
You'll need to find some of the other forum posts for this issue, which will direct you to the proper places to install an older version of directx (directx11), as well as have ddo recognize this as the version you want to use. DDO can install with directx9 automatically, but this is not ideal, as the graphics are, indeed, crappy. Windows 10 comes with dx12, which is nice, if it weren't for the fact that this game's engine is two decades old.
